From the article:

Beware of Mae West

By 7 p.m., the empty steel tables are hard and gray in the fading light. The only sounds are cars bumping over the brick street, and the soft whisper of a janitor's broom.

It's sunset and a small group gathers in the Down Under for the Ghost Tour. A blend of Seattle history and Market mystery, it is led by Mercedes Yaeger, a grown-up Market Rat -- a nickname for kids raised among the produce stalls and crafts tables.

With hint of secrecy in her voice, and grand sweeps of her arms, she weaves tales of those who haunt the Market, lowering her voice.

She describes a woman in the floppy crocheted hat who favored outfits with long loose sleeves and called herself Mae West. She died in a fire in her apartment, probably when one of her sleeves ignited. Some say she still delights in jumping out from behind poles and scaring children -- just as she did in life.

King 5 TV Great Escapes

King 5 TV rated the Pike Place Market as third for best haunted places!
Third place - Pike Place Market

What's better than wandering through a haunted market, late at night, unaware of the dangers ahead? How about a spooky, guided tour exploring the unexplained mysteries of Pike Place Market? The tour is always followed by a live improv show to calm the nerves.
