The Mayor of the Market

My father, Michael Yaeger started these tours years ago with Sheila Lyon of The Market Magic Shop. He is the honorary Mayor of the Pike Place Market, a title given to him by the first Market Mayor, Billy King, an artist in Seattle and dear friend of mine. In further recognition of his title, the Governor at the time sent my father a document honoring him as Mayor of the Pike Place Market. With that title he has been an advocate for small business in the Market, a protector of the community and it's culture, and he has traveled to other Markets around the world meeting with dignitaries. The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is one of his favorites, and the Markets on Malta provided a source of inspiration. He has written books about the Market and interviewed numerous Market characters. Most of his writings are available at Studio Solstone, in the Atrium of the Market. He has tentatively agreed to help lead the Nov 1st tour at 8pm. A tour that will focus on the characters of the Market and is in honor of Leonard, a security guard who recently passed away. My father and I gave the ghost tour together four years ago, and it was then that he allowed me to take on the tours and create them into the business and tour that exists today. It has changed and evolved and I am very proud of it. I am also very proud of the work my father continues to do in the Market, acting as it's Mayor.
